Although in itself unremarkable, this season saw another turning point in
Reading's fortunes, with new chairman John Madejski (later Sir John) and
new player-manager Mark McGhee laying the foundations for their later
success. It was also the end of an era as Martin Hicks left in the
close season after making a record 603
appearances, and Trevor Senior played his last game for Reading.
With Reading 0-2 down at home to Wigan on the last day of the season,
keeper Steve Francis was injured and Trevor took over in goal as
Reading fought back to win 3-2.
